Embercoat unlike other fire retardants is not an intumescent coating which when exposed to high heat (approx. 200–250°C), they undergo a chemical reaction, swelling to form a thick, insulating char layer that protects the substrate for up to 2 hours. Embercoat instead creates a ceramic like glaze to prevent ignition. This feature not only allows for ease of recoating as the substrate has not been damaged but also does not sacrifice the final coat if damaged due to embers.
To ensure maximum protection it is recommended that a further coating be applied every five years.
As a preventative solution it is suggested that the product be applied during those months outside bushfire season.
This coating is suitable to be applied to most exterior building products, excluding glass. If you require any clarification regarding a non standard building material or have any questions regarding application, please do not hesitate to contact us via email attaching photos and we will answer your query in a timely manner.
The use of certified installers will provide the end user with documentation of the product used, what structures were covered, and that the method of application has been followed.
Yes. If affected by fire, Embercoat does not ash or flake, but just blackens which is a unique feature allowing a new coating to be applied over the affected area. This feature is particularly innovative as it allows for partial repairs to match the existing unaffected coating keeping repair costs to a minimum.
If stored in conditions without extreme temperature change, Embercoat does not have a limited shelf life, and can be used prior to the next fire season.
Being a final coating, unlike other solutions available on the market, Embercoat is available in a standard 36 colour range (as per attached colour chart) but if a particular shade is required it can be produced at a small additional cost dependent on how many litres would be required.
We have made every effort to display as accurately as possible the colours and images of our products that appear at the store. We cannot guarantee that your computer monitor’s display of any colour will be accurate.
Embercoat has the viscosity of a normal external paint. Suitable for brush, roller, or spray, with high flexibility to adjust viscosity for tools. Having a low viscosity makes the product more affordable with a spread rate of approx. 13sqmts per litre. To coat a standard house would require around 45 litres.
